OPEN HOUSE! Project Linus Blankets

June 8th

Date details +
    Room: BSMC

    Shambhala's Blessing Blanketeers invite you to join us at the center on Saturday, June 8, at 2 -4 pm to help make blankets for traumatized children. The Blanketeers participate in the local chapter of Project Linus, a charitable organization that distributes handmade blankets for hospitalized youngsters as well as children rescued from abuse and neglect by Social Services.  We also make scarves for Grandview's chilly chemo room.

    We don't know many - or any - fancy stitches but the blankets and scarves are full of love and good wishes, and so is the center while we work every Thursdays from 10 to noon.  You're welcome to join us anytime. On Thursdays, we bring our personal supplies and make personalized contributions, but at this special Saturday meeting we will provide all the tools and materials necessary to help get you started making blankets to contribute. We will be prepared to show you how to knit or crochet.  We've also learned how to make very neat no-sew fleece blankets for older children, and we can show you how to make those, too. We will have plenty of handouts of our favorite teaching websites for knitting and crocheting, as well Project Linus's instructions for making the blankets. We aim to make it easy and joyful to join us in this special work so you can experience the meditative pleasure of repetitive handiwork, or spin some positive karma around the time you spend in front of the TV set!

    This work has become a spiritual practice that we do at home and together at the center, and we have begun to include a special loving kindness meditation with each blanket we send out to the world.  We hope you can join us on Saturday- but if you can’t come we also invite you to join us in opening our hearts to these children who need our love and concern:

    May you always have someone on your side and a place where you belong;

    Wherever you find troubles, may you also find courage and hope;

    No matter what happens, may you think of something you can do to help;

    May you be fierce and strong, so you can make your dreams come true.
