Taking the refuge vow is the step of becoming a Buddhist, of committing to meditation, understanding the Buddhist teachings, and engaging in a life in accord with the teachings.  One takes refuge in the Three Jewels:  the Buddha, the dharma and the sangha (community of fellow Buddhists).  This important step is marked and celebrated with the Refuge Vow Ceremony, which in Shambhala is conducted by an Acharya (most senior teacher).  We will be offering the Refuge Vow Ceremony in October during a visit by Acharya Fleet Maull.

This class is for people who aspire to take the Refuge Vow and is part of the preparation process, and for those who just want to learn more before deciding to take this step.  We will have a talk about the meaning of the Refuge Vow, as well as contemplation and discussion.

The registration fee includes the cost of the book participants will receive, The Refuge Vow: A Sourcebook.
